1) Saltwater is conductive
Ocean wet sand contains saltwater. Saltwater acts like a massive conductive “target,” and many detectors respond by chattering, falsing, or losing depth. That’s why simultaneous multi-frequency (SMF) and true beach modes matter: they help the detector ignore salt while still seeing metal. For the deepest submerged work, pulse induction (PI) detectors ignore salt almost entirely.
2) Wet sand and black sand add mineral interference
