Sun Ray Detector Electronics is proud to announce our new Invader™ series of aftermarket accessories for White’s metal detectors!
The new Sun Ray Invader DX-1 Target Probe has been developed to satisfy the pinpointing and retrieval needs of DFX/DFX 300/MXT/MXT PRO/M-6 & SPECTRA V3/V3i users.
We have received many requests for in-line target probes by White’s and other detector brand users for several years due to the popularity of our quality in-line probes for the Minelab Explorer and Sovereign/Elite.
Now White’s owners can enjoy the same benefits a quality Sun Ray in-line probe has to offer!
Here are some of the features of the DX-1:
- Fully compatible with DFX, DFX 300, MXT, MXT PRO & M-6 models! The DX-1 is precision built to ensure peak performance.
- (Spectra V3/V3i Compatibility is as follows:
WHITE’S SPECTRA V3/V3i AND SUN RAY INVADER DX-1 TARGET PROBE COMPATIBILITYThe Sun Ray Invader DX-1 has been determined by us and the engineers at White’s Electronics in Sweet Home, OR to be compatible with the new Spectra V3 with the following exceptions:(1) The probes we have tested on the V3 did not overload on RX 15 (gain) with TX Boost on. However, the probe may or may not overload at those settings due to slight tolerances from probe to probe just like slight tolerances from one coil to the next. (See (2) below.(2) However, the stock White’s 10″ DD coil may or may not overload with the DX-1 in-line depending on the tolerances from coil to coil. This has nothing to do with the probe or coil involved, rather with the switch (for switching from coil to probe and visa versa)(3) It was found that by either reducing the RX gain a number or two ,or, disengaging TX Boost resolved the problem.(4) In most hunting conditions RX gain cannot be used at maximum setting unless you are detecting on neutral ground such as a beach with no mineralization, especially with TX boost engaged.(5) Other V-3 compatible coils, including non V-tuned coils (whether factory or after-market) may overload at max RX and TX Boost and may require a lower RX setting (or TX Boost disengaged). How low will depend on the coil and ground conditions, however, our tests showed other coils we tested only had to be lowered on RX a few numbers to cancel the overload if TX Boost was left engaged. (NOTE: Various tests described above were conducted by both Sun Ray Detector Electronics and White’s Electronics in Sweet Home, OR. White’s Electronics has approved the above compatibility statement.)
Accurate “bulls eye” pinpointing on coin size targets up to 3″+ deep depending on detector used, settings, ground and moisture conditions!
NEW! Lighter weight, waterproof/submersible 6″ X 1″ diameter probe mounts on top of upper shaft. DX-1 probe and cable weigh approx. 5 oz. DX-1 switch box, connectors, cable and probe clip, etc. weigh approx. 5 oz. – approx. 10 oz total! (Optional box mount probe clip attachment available for those wishing to mount probe along side of detector control housing).
New red Probe Tip Cover installed to prevent wear and tear on the probe tip. Replacement covers available from your authorized, stocking Sun Ray Dealer.
While the DX-1 probe is waterproof the switch box is water resistant and must not be submersed. (We use the same connectors as White’s.)
DX-1 incorporates all of the same functions as the stock coil including accurate visual and audible target ID along with identical pinpoint functions! (Depth reading will be off due to the probe’s diameter which is normal.)
High quality custom made, durable probe and connector cable used for precision performance. Probe incorporates a very flexible heavy duty custom 32″ straight cable with strain relief for “tangle free” operation.
Quality high performance toggle switch used for peak performance! (Minimum 100,000 mechanical life operation-as described in manufacturer’s specs)
Toggle switch shuts off coil as it turns probe on and vise versa. Coil and probe are never on at the same time.
DX-1 switch box is conveniently mounted on detector pole attachment in a neutral position (for both right and left hand users) and to prevent toggle from being accidentally switched or bumped by user or damaged by tree limbs, brush, etc. if switch box is brushed or hit during detecting.
No external buzzers, vibrators or lights are needed as all target responses are heard clearly through your detector headphones!
No extra batteries required as the DX-1 utilizes the detectors power source.
Complete installation & operation instructions included.

Was fortunate enough to field test the new Sunray DX-1 probe (pinpointer) for the White’s DFX/MXT this week. Believe me, it was definately worth the wait. Starting from the beginning, the probe is very easy to install. Not like the Minelab Explorer where the shaft needs to be sent in. It just snaps on and screws in to the existing holes already on the DFX and MXT. It is very well constructed with heavy PVC and a thick cable. Looks to be built to last. The entire installation process takes less than five minutes. No batteries are required, it runs off the detectors batteries. It remains off until you switch it on, at which time the detectors coil is switched off.
As far as actual field test goes, I feel I must say that I was not a big fan of pinpointers, until now that is. I did not like any of the pinpointers I had owned in the past. The list of faults are as follows: falsing when making contact with the ground, going off inside of carrying pouch, falling out of pouch and losing them, poor sensitivity, sounding off on every piece of metal in the hole and leaving them off to the side of the hole after making a recovery and forgetting to pick them back up. I can’t tell you how many times that has happened to me. I’d have to spend anywhere’s from a minute to an hour backtracking my steps to find the thing. Almost every guy I’ve ever hunted with has lost at least one probe in the woods.
Now back to the DX-1 probe. NONE of the above apply to this probe. It’s sensitivity is outstanding (3-4″ on a coin), there is no falsing when you bump it or hit the ground. No sensitivity switch to constantly adjust, no way to lose it. It remains atop the shaft completely out of the way until needed. I could not feel any added weight to the detector while swinging either.
Now for the biggest bonuses. Get this, the probe is actually a small coil. Imagine taking your 5″ or 9.5″ coil off and just having a 1″ coil. That’s what you now have right at your fingertips. If your program is discriminating out iron, so will the probe. If you sweep in the hole and there’s 3 nails, a quarter and a dime in the hole, as you sweep over each one, the probe will ID it on your VDI as such and through the tones if your Tone ID is on. Next big bonus is it requires no batteries and when switched on your main coil is switched off. This means that there is no longer interference between the probe and detector and the detector, while idle is not constantly chattering.
All in all I have to give it two thumbs up. Sunray did an outstanding job on this and it was definately worth the wait. I could not find a single thing that I did not like about the probe. Contact your nearest Sunray dealer and check it out.
